The ACOG serves as a strong advocate for quality health care for women, maintains high standards of clinical practice and continuing education for its members, and promotes patient education. The Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF, http://www.wcn.org/gcf/) was established by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) in 1991 as a nonprofit charitable organization to raise funds to support philanthropic programs to benefit women who have, or who are at risk for, developing a gynecologic cancer. The National Cancer Institute (http://cancernet.nci.nih.gov) conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients. The National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC, http://www.nccc-online.org/) is a grass roots campaign to educate the public about cervical cancer prevention and outreach, new screening and treatment options, cervical cancer screening and follow-up programs, HPV, and Pap smear.
